Pipette Service Technician (Part-Time) – Student Opportunity

Location: Vancouver, BC and Edmonton, AB (On-site client visits and office work),

Job Summary

Are you an international student at the University of British Columbia or the University of Alberta with experience working in a research lab or currently learning in a lab? We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Pipette Service Technician to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to apply your technical lab skills in a business environment, gain hands-on experience in equipment maintenance, and develop client relations skills. You’ll be responsible for the entire service cycle, from finding new clients to providing on-site pipette repair, maintenance, and calibration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Service:
  • Perform routine maintenance, repair, and calibration of single-channel and multi-channel pipettes.
  • Diagnose mechanical and performance issues accurately.
  • Maintain detailed service records and calibration certificates for all serviced equipment.
  • Manage an inventory of spare parts and tools.
  • Client Acquisition & Relations:
  • Identify and contact potential customers, including research labs, academic institutions, and biotech companies.
  • Schedule on-site service appointments and manage client communications.
  • Travel to client laboratories to perform services directly on-site.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Must be a student currently enrolled at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and University of Alberta.
  • Previous experience working in a research or academic laboratory setting is required. You should be comfortable and familiar with standard lab equipment, especially pipettes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage your own schedule.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with clients.
  • Organized, with a keen eye for detail.
  • A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle and must be willing and able to travel to customers.
